SOYA CHANA DAL SABZI RECIPE

Ingredients

Split Bengal gram (chana dal) soaked 1 cup
Soya bean chunks soaked and squeezed 1½ cups
Oil 2 tablespoons
Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon
Onions chopped 3 medium
Ginger chopped 1 teaspoon
Garlic chopped 1 teaspoon
Tomatoes chopped 2 medium
Asafoetida ¼ teaspoon
Coriander powder 3 teaspoons
Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon
Turmeric powder ¼ teaspoon
Salt to taste
Garam masala powder 1 teaspoon
Fresh coriander leaves chopped for garnishing

How to make Soya Chana Dal Sabzi

. Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and sauté till their colour begins to change.
. Add onions and sauté till they are golden.
. Add ginger and garlic, mix well and sauté for 1 minute.
. Add tomatoes, mix well and cook till they are pulpy.
. Add asafoetida, coriander powder, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and mix well.
. Add salt and chana dal, mix well and cook till the dal is soft.
. Add 3 tablespoons water, mix and cook further.
. Add soya chunks, garam masala powder. Toss and add 2-3 tablespoons water. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
. Serve hot garnished with coriander leaves.

RIDGE GOURD DAL WITH MOONG DAL RECIPE

Ingredients:

Moong Dal / Split Green Gram : 1/2 cup
Chopped Ridge Gourd: 1 and 1/2 cup
Tomato: 1 large sized
Tamarind: marble sized ball
Turmeric Powder : 1/4 tsp
Green Chillies: 2 – 3
Red Chilli Powder : as needed
Garlic : 2
Mustard Seeds: 1/2 tsp
Chana Dal: 1/2 tsp
Urad Dal: 1/2 tsp
Curry Leaves: 1 sprig
A pinch of hing
Salt to taste

How to make Ridge Gourd Dal with Moong Dal

. Soak the tamarind in water and squeeze the extract out of it.
. Wash, peel and chop the ridge gourd into medium size pieces.
. Put the rinsed moong dal, chopped tomato and ridge gourd pieces and one cup of water and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
. Turn off the flame and wait until the pressure go off.
. Add the tamarind extract, salt and red chilli powder to the cooked dal and allow it to cook for 5 minutes.
. Heat oil in a pan for seasoning. Add the mustard seeds, chana dal, urad dal and minced garlic and let them splutter.
. Add the curry leaves and hing and fry for a couple of seconds.
. Switch off the flame and add the seasoned ingredients to the dal.
. Combine well and serve hot with rice or roti.

TOMATO DAL RECIPE

 Ingredients:

1/2 cup Toor Dal
1.5 cup Tomatoes, chopped
3 Green Chillies
Tamarind small lemon size ball
1/2 tsp Red Chilli Powder or as needed
1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
1/2 tsp Chanan Dal
1/2 tsp Urad Dal
1/4 tsp Cumin Seeds
1 Sprig Curry Leaves
2 Sprigs Coriander Leaves, finely chopped
1 Dried Red Chilli
1/4 tsp Turmeric
1/8 tsp Hing
2 tsp Oil

How to make Tomato Dal

. Put the rinsed toor dal, chopped tomato, turmeric, green chillies and one cup of water in a pressure cooker and cook for 3 whistles.
. Switch off the flame and wait until the pressure go off.
. Soak the tamarind in water for 10 minutes. Squeeze the extract out of it and set aside.
. Add the red chilli powder, salt, tamarind extract and water (adjust to desired consistency)  to the cooked dal and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
. Add the chopped coriander and combine well.
. Turn off the flame.
. Heat oil in a pan for seasoning. Add the mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal and cumin seeds and let them splutter.
. Add the curry leaves, hing and red chilli and stir for a couple of seconds.
. Switch off the flame and add the seasoned ingredients to the prepared dal.
. Mix well and serve hot with rice or roti.

Chopped Spinach : 1 cup

How to make Moong & Spinach Dal

. Heat a teaspoon of oil in a vessel. Add the mustard seeds, chana dal and urad dal and let them splutter.
. Then add the red chillies, hing and curry leaves to it and fry for a few seconds.
. Pour it over the cooked dal and combine well.
. Serve hot with roti or steamed rice, dollop of ghee and some papads.

How to make Tomato Methi Dal

. Put the toor dal, chopped methi leaves, chopped tomato, chopped onion, green chillies, tamarind and 2 cups of water in a pressure cooker and cook for 3 whistles.
. Switch off the flame and wait until the pressure go off.
. Remove the dal mixture from the cooker and add the salt, turmeric powder and red chilli powder and set aside.
. Heat oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds, chana dal, urad dal and let them splutter.
. Then add the red chilli and hing and fry for few seconds.
. Add the dal mixture and cook for another few minutes.
. Serve with roti or hot steamed rice and dollop of ghee.

Ingredients:

1 small cup tur dal/red gram dal/kandi pappu
1/2 cup peeled and chopped raw mango pieces
1 onion, chopped
big pinch turmeric pwd
2-3 green chillis, slit lengthwise
1/2 tsp chopped ginger
salt to taste
1 1/2 -2 cups water

For seasoning/poppu/tadka:

1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
3-4 garlic cloves, crushed
2 dry red chillis, de-seed and tear
10-12 fresh curry leaves

How to make Mamidikaya Pappu

. In a pressure cooker, place dal, mango pieces, onions, green chillis, ginger and turmeric pwd.
. Add 1 1/2 to 2 cups of water and pressure cook upto 3 whistles.
. If cooking over stove top, cook till the dal and mango pieces are almost cooked.
. Heat oil in a heavy bottomed vessel, add mustard seeds and as they splutter, add cumin seeds, garlic, red chillis and curry leaves and stir fry for half a minute.
. Add this to the pressure cooked dal along with salt and combine.
. Cook on slow to medium flame for 8-10 mts without lid or till you get the consistency of your choice.
. Serve with white rice, a stir fry dish (vepudu) and appadam.

Yellow Lentil / Toor dal : 1 cup

How to make Thotakura Pappu

. Wash yellow lentil properly with plenty of water.
. Put the washed lentil and 2 cups of water in a pressure cooker and cook till 3 whistles.
. Soak the tamarind in water for 10 minutes. Then squeeze the extract out of it and keep aside.
. Remove the stems from the amaranth leaves. Wash and chop the leaves and set aside. Peel the onions and cut them into medium pieces.
. Put the onion pieces, chopped leaves, green chillies, turmeric and water in a bowl and cook for 10 minutes.
. Now add the tamarind pulp, cooked dal, salt and red chilli powder to it. Let it cook for 5 minutes and turn off the flame.
. Heat oil in a pan for seasoning. Add the mustard seeds, chanadal, urad dal and let them splutter.
. When they start to splutter add red chilli and hing and stir for a few minutes.
. Remove from the flame and pour over the dal mixture.
. Mix well and serve hot with steamed rice or roti.

Ridge gourd pieces : 2 cups

. Remove from the flame and pour over the cooked dal mixture.
. Mix well and serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
